Liquid Cultures

چکیده
The intracellular life cycle of Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus 109 growing on Escherichia coli in a dilute nutrient medium exhibits a period of constant infective titer while the parasite grows and elongates inside the host cell. This period is terminated after 2 to 4 hr, and the number of the plaque-forming units in the culture rises rapidly to as much as six times the initial titer. The growth pattern of Bdellovibrio is similar with actively growing or resting host cells, or with host cells killed by ultraviolet irradiation or by heating at 70 C. The yield of B. bacteriovorus strain 109 in twomembered cultures with E. coli B depends on the host concentration and may reach 7.5 x 1010 cells per ml. Penicillin, which has no effect on the attachment and penetration of Bdellovibrio, inhibits its multiplication.

Root cultures of Linum spp. (section Syllinum) as a source of 6-methoxypodopyllotoxin
Linum spp. (Linaceae) has been shown to accumulate cytotoxic lignans such as podophyllotoxin and 6-methoxypodopyllotoxin. Therefore, plant cell and tissue cultures of Linum spp. may be possible alternative sources for the lignan production. In this study, we focused on the production of lignans by root cultures of Linum spp. Hairy root cultures of L. nodiflorum, L.album and L. austriacum and ro...

متن کاملCell Suspension Culture of Plumbago europaea L. Towards Production of Plumbagin
Background: Plumbagin is as an important bioactive secondary metabolite found in the roots of Plumbago spp. The only one species, Plumbago europaea L., grows wild in Iran. The therapeutic use of plumbagin is limited due to its insufficient supply from the natural sources as the plants grow slowly and take several years to produce quality roots. O...
متن کاملTranscriptomic Analysis of Liquid Non-Sporulating Streptomyces coelicolor Cultures Demonstrates the Existence of a Complex Differentiation Comparable to That Occurring in Solid Sporulating Cultures
Streptomyces species produce many clinically relevant secondary metabolites and exhibit a complex development that includes hyphal differentiation and sporulation in solid cultures. Industrial fermentations are usually performed in liquid cultures, conditions in which Streptomyces strains generally do not sporulate, and it was traditionally assumed that no differentiation took place. The aim of...

A new, simple immunochromatographic assay for rapid identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in liquid cultures has been developed. The principle of the assay is binding of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex specific antigen to the monoclonal antibody conjugated on the test strip. The aim of this study is evaluation of the performance of immunochromatographic assay in identifica...
